The AD8232 ECG Pulse Heart Measurement Monitoring Sensor Module is a powerful, medical-grade integrated signal conditioning block for ECG and other biopotential measurement applications. At Electrapac, we recommend this kit for students, researchers, and hobbyists who want to explore the electrical activity of the heart using an Arduino or Raspberry Pi.

Product Overview

The AD8232 is designed to extract, amplify, and filter small biopotential signals in the presence of noisy conditions, such as those created by motion or remote electrode placement. It operates as an operational amplifier to help get a clear signal from the PR and QT Intervals easily. This kit includes the sensor lead cables and biomedical electrode pads, providing a complete out-of-the-box solution for heart rate monitoring projects.

Key Features for Electrapac Customers
  • Specialized Signal Conditioning: Specifically designed to filter out the "noise" generated by muscle movement (EMG), providing a much cleaner heart rhythm wave.

  • Leads-Off Detection: Includes a built-in feature that notifies the microcontroller if an electrode has disconnected from the user's body.

  • Analog Interface: The output is a simple analog voltage, making it extremely easy to read using the analogRead() function on any Arduino board from www.electrapac.com.

  • Ultra-Low Power: Designed for battery-operated applications, drawing very little current during operation.

  • Integrated Right Leg Drive (RLD): Improves the common-mode rejection, which is essential for getting a steady ECG trace in environments with 50Hz/60Hz interference.

Wiring & Electrode Placement

To get a clear "P-Q-R-S-T" wave with your Electrapac kit:

  1. VCC/GND: Connect to 3.3V (Note: Do not use 5V as it may damage the chip).

  2. Output: Connect to an Analog Pin (e.g., A0).

  3. LO+/LO-: Connect to Digital Pins if you want to detect disconnected pads.

  4. Placement: Place the Right Arm (RA) and Left Arm (LA) pads on the chest near the shoulders, and the Right Leg (RL) pad on the lower right abdomen or hip.

Primary Applications
  • Fitness Heart Monitors: Real-time heart rate tracking during exercise.

  • Biomedical Engineering: Learning about the electrical signals of the human heart (Electrocardiogram).

  • Portable Health Devices: Prototyping wearable tech that syncs heart data to a mobile app via Bluetooth.

  • Stress Monitoring: Analyzing heart rate variability (HRV) as an indicator of stress levels.
