The ISD1820 Voice Recording Module is a compact and user-friendly sound storage solution that allows you to record and play back up to 10 seconds of high-quality audio. At Electrapac, we recommend this module for makers and students in Bangladesh who want to add "voice" to their Arduino robots, interactive greeting cards, or smart home security alerts.
Product OverviewThe ISD1820 is a true "single-chip" recording system. It features non-volatile flash memory, meaning your recorded message will stay saved even if you disconnect the power. The module comes with an on-board microphone for recording and a small 8-ohm speaker for immediate playback. It can be operated manually using the built-in buttons or controlled digitally via an Arduino, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi.
Standalone Operation: You don't need a computer or a microcontroller to use it. Simply connect a 5V battery, press the "REC" button, and start talking into the microphone.
Three Playback Modes:
PLAYE: Edge-activated playback. Press once, and the full message plays.
PLAYL: Level-activated playback. The message plays only as long as the button is held down.
REPEAT: When the jumper is set, the module will loop the message continuously.
Direct Speaker Drive: The board includes a small audio amplifier, so you can connect the included speaker directly to the pins without needing an external Amp.
Microphone Included: Features a high-sensitivity electret microphone pre-soldered to the board for clear voice capture.
Non-Volatile Memory: Unlike RAM-based recorders, the ISD1820 keeps your 10-second recording safe for years without a battery.
Connecting the Electrapac ISD1820 to your project is simple:
VCC/GND: Connect to 3.3V or 5V.
REC (Pin): Pull this HIGH to start recording.
PLAYE (Pin): Pulse this HIGH to play the entire message once.
Speaker: Plug the included 2-pin speaker into the dedicated white header on the board.
FT (Feed-Through): When this jumper is active, the microphone's sound is sent directly to the speaker (Megaphone mode).
Primary ApplicationsPro-Tip: If the volume is too low, you can replace the included 0.5W speaker with a larger 8-ohm speaker for better bass and clarity. However, do not use 4-ohm speakers as they may overheat the small on-board chip.
Interactive Robotics: Giving your robot a "personality" by having it say "Hello" or "Obstacle Detected."
Smart Doorbell: Recording a custom message like "Please wait, I'm coming to the door" that plays when a button is pressed.
Security Alarms: Replacing a standard "beep" with a voice warning like "Unauthorized access detected!"
Educational Toys: Building "Talking Books" or memory games for children.
Annunciators: Providing voice feedback for industrial control panels or smart appliances.
