The NEO-M8N GPS Module with Ceramic Active Antenna is the gold standard for high-precision satellite positioning in the "NEO" series. At Electrapac, we recommend the M8N over the 6M or 7M because it can track multiple satellite systems simultaneously (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo), giving you a faster lock and much higher accuracy in difficult environments.

Product Overview

The NEO-M8N is a 72-channel concurrent GNSS receiver. Because it can "see" more satellite constellations at once, it provides a highly stable signal even in "urban canyons" or under heavy tree cover where single-system modules often fail.

Key Features for Developers
  • Concurrent Reception: Unlike the NEO-7M, the M8N can receive signals from up to three GNSS systems simultaneously. This significantly reduces the Time to First Fix (TTFF).

  • Ceramic Active Antenna: The included high-gain ceramic patch antenna provides superior signal-to-noise ratios. It usually comes with a U.FL/IPEX connector or is soldered directly for a compact footprint.

  • Firmware Upgradeable: Because this module includes internal Flash memory (unlike the ROM-based M8M or M8Q), you can update the firmware to support new features or satellite protocols via u-blox u-center software.

  • Onboard LED & Battery: Includes a "Fix" LED that blinks when positioning is active and a rechargeable backup battery to store satellite data for nearly instant "Hot Starts."

  • Advanced Jamming Detection: Features built-in CW detection and removal, helping the module maintain a lock even in areas with high radio interference.

Connectivity & Setup

The module is designed for easy integration with Arduino, ESP32, or Pixhawk flight controllers:

  1. VCC: 3.3V - 5V power supply.

  2. GND: Ground.

  3. TX / RX: Connect to your microcontroller's Serial port (remember to cross them: TX to RX).

  4. Logic Level: While it accepts 5V for power, the I/O pins are 3.3V logic. For 5V microcontrollers like the Arduino Uno, we recommend using a logic level converter for the TX/RX lines.
