Empower your robots with the ability to see lines and objects with the TCRT5000 IR Infrared Reflective Sensor Module, available now at the best price in Bangladesh from ElectraPac. The TCRT5000 is the most popular choice for Dhaka’s "Line Follower Robot" (LFR) enthusiasts. It works by emitting an infrared beam and measuring the reflection; since black surfaces absorb IR light and white surfaces reflect it, this module can differentiate between paths with extreme accuracy. The TCRT5000 IR Infrared Reflective Sensor Module is an essential component for short-range object detection and surface sensing. At Electrapac, we highly recommend this module for students and hobbyists in Bangladesh who are building line-following robots, optical encoders, or non-contact limit switches with Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
Product OverviewThe module combines an infrared (IR) emitting diode and an NPN phototransistor in a single package. It works by emitting an invisible beam of infrared light; if an object is in front of the sensor, the light reflects back to the phototransistor, triggering a signal. Because different colors reflect IR light differently (black absorbs it while white reflects it), this sensor is the industry standard for Line Following Robots.
Dual Signal Output: * Digital (D0): Provides a simple HIGH or LOW signal based on a preset threshold—perfect for fast-moving line followers.
Analog (A0): Provides a variable voltage based on the distance or reflectivity of the object, allowing for more nuanced sensing.
On-Board Potentiometer: Allows you to manually adjust the sensitivity and detection range to suit your specific project environment.
Anti-Interference Design: The physical casing of the TCRT5000 sensor helps block ambient visible light, ensuring the sensor only responds to its own infrared frequency.
Status LEDs: Features a power indicator and a signal indicator LED that lights up when an object is detected, making calibration a breeze.
Compact & Lightweight: Easily mounts to the bottom of robot chassis or inside small enclosures using the pre-drilled M3 mounting hole.
Setting up the Electrapac TCRT5000 module is straightforward for any DIY enthusiast:
VCC: Connect to 3.3V or 5V.
GND: Connect to Ground.
D0 / A0: Connect to your desired microcontroller pins.
Calibration: Place the sensor over a white surface. Rotate the potentiometer until the "Signal LED" turns on. Then, move it over a black surface; the LED should turn off. If it doesn't, fine-tune the potentiometer until you get a clear distinction.
Primary ApplicationsPro-Tip: When building a Line Follower, place the sensor roughly 5mm to 10mm above the track. If the sensor is too high, the IR light will scatter; if it is too low, it may "blind" the phototransistor with too much reflection.
Line Following Robots: Detecting black lines on white surfaces (or vice versa) for autonomous navigation.
Optical Encoders: Counting the rotations of a wheel by detecting a black stripe on a motor shaft.
Paper Sensing: Detecting the presence of paper in DIY printers or automated feeders.
Limit Switches: Using a non-contact method to tell a CNC machine or 3D printer it has reached its home position.
Water Meter Pulse Counting: Detecting the rotation of reflective dials in utility meters.
